Course description: This is part of a brand new suite of ICT qualifications offered by EdExcel. It is equivalent to 2 GCSEs and requires the time allocated to 2 elective choices. Each unit is assessed via a Summative Project, specified by the examination board EdExcel. Each project takes 30 hours of lessons and the evidence produced builds into an e-portfolio which acts as a show case for the skills you have developed. The e-portfolio is then assessed on-line. The scope, philosophy and delivery methods of this course require a high degree of commitment and motivation. Further details and examples of the Summative Project can be found at http://dida.edexcel.org.uk Unit 1: Using ICT – year 10We live in an age of information overload; TV, radio, text messaging, web and e-mail, telephone, video, DVD and CD, to say nothing of newspapers and face-to-face conversations. How do we manage all the information we receive? How do we judge its usefulness? How can we present it clearly and effectively so it communicates the message we want to convey? These are all issues addressed in this unit. You will also learn how to critically evaluate your own work and the work of others. Content summary:
Unit 2: Multimedia – year 11You will design your own multimedia applications as well as take a critical look at multimedia in the world around you. You'll learn how to collect multimedia products such as music and images and then manage the process of putting them together to create something new. You'll learn the importance of managing and reviewing your work and testing what you could produce, as well as thinking about how it could be distributed. Content summary:
