Course description: GCSE Drama is a challenging course that not only offers pupils the chance to develop their acting skills but also their communication and problem solving skills, qualities that can be used in any career or job. Pupils will explore a number of issues through a variety of Drama strategies and be directly involved in the performance of a scripted play. They are also expected to respond to a text looking at the themes explored and the different dramatical skills and techniques used by the playwright. The course is divided into three parts: In part 1 you will use Drama to express your ideas in response to variety of issues and stimuli. In part 2 you will study a play to see how a playwright expresses their ideas on a theme and explore how this works on stage. In part 3 you will be involved in the performance of a play - either an existing script or one that you have written. Assessment Examination (40%) You will take part in a rehearsed play, being examined either on your acting skills or technical skills (costume, make up, set design). You will perform the play in front of an audience and an examiner. Coursework (60%) This consists of practical performance work and a written portfolio of evidence and will be assessed through two workshops. Workshop 1 – You will use your skills to respond to a variety of materials presented by your teacher. Workshop 2 – You will explore a play and show your understanding through a variety of tasks. These two workshops will be supported by written portfolios in which you record and evaluate your responses to the tasks set. |
